Soil Classification Testing Syringe

$10.00

The nozzle on this syringe has been removed, leaving the plunger and volume markings. Using this device, the percent of sand and fines in a field sample of soil may be determined. This is useful in the process of visual soil classification in accordance with ASTM D2488.

The test uses the measurements provided on the side of the syringe to estimate the percent of sand in a minus No. 4 soil specimen. The test compares a syringe filled with 4 ml of the specimen to a syringe containing the sand remaining after washing the fines out. Note that typically, the test will result in a value that is ±5% of the measured soil gradation.
